From the Terrifying 25 to the Twin Barns

After our epic adventure climbing up ladders and down into bolder tunnels during our climb of Mts Morgan & Percival, we headed off to nearby Meredith, NH for Twin Barns Brewing. Not only had we knocked two off the 52 peaks with-a-view list, but also the harrowing Terrifying 25.

After such a fun hike, we were ready for some brews with food. Funny enough, this was our second attempt at visiting Twin Barns. The first time was earlier in the year after we did a grand tour of the Belknap Range. Unfortunately, the beer garden had just closed just as we arrived despite the unseasonably warm weather. This time however, the beer garden was not only open, but buzzing with activity.

After we arrived, we claimed a picnic table in the beer garden in the shelter of a tent. We went to the outdoor bar and ordered a round of Sandbar Blonde while we looked through the food menu.

Soon we decided upon an eclectic selection of soft pretzels, a flatbread pizza, BBQ pulled pork mac and cheese and a salad and headed inside to place our order. Inside we were greeted with the rustic interior of the barn, featuring high ceilings and plenty of woodwork.

In the meantime, we enjoyed the brewery grounds, particularly watching one tense match of giant Jenga. After a second round of brews our food was ready to collect.

Each one of our selections was a solid choice and were hitting all the notes. Except for the salad, which while good, was hard to split and something we could have done without.

Before we headed out, I picked myself up some cans to go and a new t-shirt for my wardrobe (which consists mostly of brewery shirts at this point).

We Like Ike – and Tuckerman Too

A few years back, I started my quest to climb all 48 of the New Hampshire 4,000 footers. Today, I made a major milestone. With my 24th peak summited, I made the halfway mark. We reached the Eisenhower trailhead around 7:30 and started our ascent. Unlike Tecumseh which apparently is a popular climb, we didn’t encounter a single soul until we reached the Crawford path climbing the 4,760 foot mountain a few hours into the hike.
